This is exactly it. As a guy who came out of the US West Coast psychedelic hippie scene and who owes my continued existence to an acid trip in my mid 20s that broke me out of hardcore drug addiction, this sort of use-psychedelics-to-keep-plugged-into-the-Matrix, “Brave New World” soma solution is what I was writing against back in this blog post in 2018.

We need to transcend this culture and create the more beautiful world our hearts know is possible, not become cozy with it so we can continue to feed it. That route leads to dystopian. And it breaks my heart that the amazing potential of psychedelics may be turned into just one more chain of our imprisonment. But hey, at least we’ll be happy, right! Oh, and we’ll own nothing, too…
