There are PLENTY of intelligent, independent-thinking women who support Bernie because they believe, as I do (as a lifelong feminist), that he is, just like in 2016, the best candidate for women and everyone else. It’s not us men who support Bernie gaslighting these women.
Consider for a second how that sounds. You are suggesting these women can’t think for themselves, that they are only supporting Bernie because psychologically manipulative men (like me) are gaslighting them.
Anyway, while I recognize that some Bernie followers on social media are assholes, isn’t that true for passionate followers of all candidates? Politics are passionate and social media? Well, it’s where the passionate go to be assholes because they can get away with it. Ha ha.
I actually had a lot more written here but ended up posting this article on Medium instead ( https://medium.com/@bryanwinchell_japan/enough-with-the-bernie-bros-bs-already-because-it-hurts-9ac1b2c6b677).
But I’ll finish with a quote that I didn’t put in the article. It’s from an article from a guy who worked for Hillary in 2016. Here it is:
The lesson is unmistakable: there are angry and obnoxious supporters of all candidates. Isolating Sanders supporters and implying they are a misogynistic monolith is profoundly unfair. Why are other candidates’ backers allowed to fight hard without being reduced to a regressive moniker? While sexism and harassment are unacceptable in any forum, the hyper-focus on a small minority of aggressive online trolls purposely tarnishes an entire movement through guilt by association. — Peter Daou with Leela Daou
