Your explanation about Castaneda and the McKennas makes sense and I appreciate the reminder about the Jupiter connection between Sagittarius and Pisces, which does add some resonance to the connection between these two eras.

Moving out of the drug culture connections, I can also see how both that period with its “comedown” from the 1960s and ours with the comedown from where many techno-optimists and even McKenna “end of Time” 2012 types felt the 2000s and the Internet was taking us have a connection, both leading to some of the nihilism we see today.

Last, I share concerns about where psychedelics may go if they become more accepted in the mainstream. I wrote about one aspect of that concern in fall 2018 and feel this essay holds up.
