In all seriousness, absolutely---what I see in your story is just a person who has developed a habit that keeps her connected to the world in a very real way. As someone who has had some serious bouts of depression, I always say that if I had only one word to define my experience of depression it would be "disconnection." Thus, ANY activity that connects us to our surroundings, to our world, to our fellow humans seems like a good cure for that feeling. (Having said that, my experience of depression---once I was in it---thus sorts of activities wouldn't quickly pull me out of it. It's more a matter of making this stuff part of our daily routine and that perhaps will keep us from getting depressed in the first place.)
