As a graduate of USC's well-regarded (at least in the 1990s) journalism school, I'd like to suggest to those who came up with this policy to give themselves a weekend to deeply read and ponder "1984" by George Orwell.

I'm grabbing this passage from an article on Heather Heying's excellent Substack, which I'll link below:

Winston, the hero of Nineteen Eighty-Four, finds himself at one point lectured on the wonders of Newspeak by another employee of the Ministry of Truth: “Do you know that Newspeak is the only language in the world whose vocabulary gets smaller every year?” Syme asks him. “Don’t you see that the whole aim of Newspeak is to narrow the range of thought?” (emphasis mine)
