Absolutely. I feel like I spend the majority of my social media time making this sort of case to people---that as everyday people, we need to work on discovering what our core values are, why we have them, and start conversing about those, and when we do that, we'll realize we share a lot more in common with "the other side" that we spend so much of our time demonizing.

We just play into a divide-and-conquer strategy when we fall into these arguments, which too often are more about creating straw men to attack then they are honestly listening to others, considering what we've heard and then responded.
